Louisiana homeowners have another opportunity to strengthen their homes and save on roofing costs through the latest round of the Louisiana Fortify Homes Program.
The Louisiana Department of Insurance (LDI) has announced a new registration period for the program, which offers grants of up to $10,000 to eligible homeowners who upgrade their roofs to the FORTIFIED Roof Standard. Registration for this new round is open now through November 19, 2025, and space is limited.

What Is the Fortify Homes Program
The Louisiana Fortify Homes Program (LFHP) was created to help homeowners reinforce their roofs to better withstand hurricane-force winds and severe weather. Funded and managed by the Louisiana Department of Insurance, the program covers roofing upgrades built to meet the Insurance Institute for Business & Home Safety (IBHS) FORTIFIED standards.
These enhancements include:
- Stronger edges that help prevent wind uplift
- A sealed roof deck to block water intrusion if shingles are damaged
- Ring-shank nails for a tighter, more wind-resistant hold
- Optional impact-resistant shingles that protect against hail up to two inches in diameter
After the work is completed, homeowners receive a FORTIFIED Roof certificate that may qualify them for insurance premium discounts and long-term savings.
What’s New About This Round
This is the most recent round of grant funding, following previous openings that quickly filled up due to high demand. Homeowners who missed earlier registration periods now have another chance to apply and secure funding for their roof replacement.
Each new round of the Fortify Homes Program allows more Louisiana families to strengthen their properties and improve storm resilience, an important step for those living in high-risk areas.
Who Can Apply
The program is open to Louisiana homeowners with primary residences that have a valid homestead exemption and an active homeowners insurance policy covering wind damage.
To qualify:
- The home must be located in Louisiana and in good repair.
- Homes in flood zones must also have flood insurance.
- New construction homes, condominiums, and mobile homes are not eligible.
- The roof replacement must cover the entire structure (partial repairs do not qualify).
- Homeowners will be selected through a lottery after registration closes.
